Founded in 1984, Bain Capital led a 2018 consortium with SK Hynix and others to buy Toshiba Memory, now Kioxia, when it was put up for sale amid an accounting scandal. Riding the AI-driven memory supercycle, the deal became one of private equity's biggest wins, and Bain fully exited its stake in 2026.
