days of inventory

It converts inventory into days by dividing it against the cost of goods sold. A rising number can mean goods are piling up unsold, or that a company is stocking ahead of shipments it already expects. Because the same figure can read as slowing demand or as a ramp, investors look at the reason alongside the number when reading a manufacturer's results.
