It comes out of monthly national trade statistics, which puts it nearly two months ahead of company results. But it is an average, so it falls even if only the share of expensive product inside a category drops. Telling a real price cut from a mix shift takes knowing how the categories are drawn and whether neighbouring categories moved with it.
