GlobalWafers is a Taiwan-based semiconductor silicon wafer maker headquartered in Hsinchu, formed in 2011 when it split off from Sino-American Silicon Products. It became the world's third-largest wafer supplier after acquiring SunEdison Semiconductor in 2016, and has since expanded manufacturing to South Korea, Italy, and the United States, including a new fab in Sherman, Texas that opened in 2025. The company supplies the polished silicon substrates that chipmakers etch into logic and memory chips, making it a bottleneck supplier for the broader semiconductor industry.
