HOUTHIS
The Houthis are a Yemeni armed movement backed by Iran that has fought a long civil war for control of Yemen and has increasingly targeted commercial shipping and oil infrastructure in the Red Sea, Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, and nearby Gulf waters. Their attacks force ships onto longer, costlier routes and add a geopolitical risk premium to oil and shipping prices whenever tensions with Iran or Saudi Arabia escalate.
