Awaiting gradingWhy did the Kospi fall another 8% on the day JPMorgan said the forced selling was nearly done?KOSPI jumped a record 17.91% on 7/31, but foreign and institutional selling resumed on 8/3, sending Samsung/SK hynix down another 7-8% and KOSPI down ~3.6%. The reversal within days makes it too early to tell whether this is the tail of the liquidation or fresh selling. Score after another 1-2 weeks once the swings settle.
Awaiting gradingIf Korea limits single-stock leveraged ETFs to professional investors, where does retail money go?As of 7/29-30, the professional-investor-only restriction remained under review, not finalized (the 20% portfolio cap was decided for immediate rollout; the professional-investor limit and leverage-ratio cut are still being weighed separately). Score once an actual rule takes effect, by checking whether domestic product AUM falls together with Korean holdings of the Hong Kong-listed SK hynix 2x product, or whether risk merely migrates there.
MissChip stocks fell together. Why did Kioxia fall harder than the rest?Kioxia's July 31 earnings (revenue ¥1.7671 trillion, above the ¥1.75 trillion guidance) and two instances in July (7/9, 7/29-30) of Kioxia rebounding together with Samsung Electronics and SK hynix were both confirmed, but no news emerged of a Viasat patent lawsuit appeal ruling or settlement, and the stock reaction on the earnings-announcement day itself was inconsistent across outlets (+18% to -11%). As of July 30, Kioxia's drawdown from its peak (-63.66%) was still larger than SK hynix's (-54.68%), so the original question's premise cannot be said to have been clearly resolved.
