That report shows this is not only a Korean story. It says NVIDIA may raise graphics card prices by a further 20 to 30% during 2026, with the increase landing in the weeks or months after partner inventory sells through. Korea's increase this month looks like the same schedule arriving early.

Why is there memory on a graphics card

A graphics processor has to pull the data it draws with at very high speed. So the board carries several dedicated memory chips around the processor, and that memory is called GDDR. It shares its roots with the DRAM you plug into a desktop. The design is simply tilted toward moving a lot of data at once.

Same process, same fabs. That is the heart of what is happening. When a memory maker gives more of its lines to server parts, the volume headed for gaming parts shrinks, and what is left gets repriced.

The GDDR7 used by the RTX 50 series costs roughly twice as much per gigabyte as the previous generation. Several of these modules sit on a single card, so doubling the module price enlarges memory's share of the card's cost by the same order.

What rose here is not the price of a finished card but the price of one part inside it. Same model, same performance, different price tag.

Who raised the price

NVIDIA sells few finished cards itself. It hands board makers a kit that bundles the graphics processor with the memory. It has reportedly told those partners that the kit price is going up.

That report adds that the increase covers not only the GDDR7-based RTX 50 series but the older GDDR6-based RTX 3060. So this is not a charge attached to new products. It is attached to any card that uses memory. Cooling parts and boards are said to have become more expensive as well.

Who really sets this price

It starts with where a memory maker points its lines. As long as server DRAM and HBM keep selling for more, gaming GDDR waits its turn. So a graphics card's price follows the direction of memory prices more closely than it follows NVIDIA's pricing policy. The shopper sees a price tag on a card, but the hand moving that tag is at a memory supply negotiation.

What settles it

The question comes down to one thing. Is this increase a price that comes back down once the crunch eases, or one that settles in. If output from the capacity memory makers have added starts arriving and server demand takes a breather, the first reading is right. If the added output keeps going to server customers first, gaming card prices stay where they have moved to. The AI build-out is usually discussed in units of data centres and power. One of the earliest points where that spending reaches a household budget is this month's graphics card price tag.
