Which component got more orders after raising its price?
So this is just what I'm seeing with $SIVE and the CW DFB laser chokepoint right now.

The price went up and more orders came in. Lumentum's fiscal fourth quarter revenue was $1.0063 billion, up 109.3% from a year earlier, and the guide for the next quarter is $1.225 billion to $1.275 billion.

The same week, Applied Optoelectronics posted second quarter revenue of $191.9 million, up 86% from a year earlier. The company wrote that it expects demand to keep outpacing its production capacity through mid-2027.

It reports that inside a 20-40% gap between transceiver demand and supply, the part named as the bottleneck was the laser. MACOM is said to be getting the same urgency from customers over a shortage of indium phosphide DFB lasers. What is short is not the finished transceiver but the chip that makes light inside it.
Why only the laser cannot scale
Money can widen the last three rows. The first one does not widen with them.
CW means light that stays on. It holds a steady output instead of switching off and on, and a separate device next to it does the switching that turns the beam into data. Put simply, the laser is the lamp and the signal comes from a shutter opening and closing in front of it. If the lamp wavers the signal breaks no matter how fast the shutter moves, which is why only qualified light sources go into this slot. The wafer underneath is the problem. Semiconductor silicon wafers are 12 inches across as standard, while indium phosphide wafers still sit at two to four inches. The number of chips one pass yields is different from the start.

The first three dates already happened. The last two are still promises.
Does pricing power sit with the companies assembling transceivers or with the ones holding the light source? Lumentum's next quarter answers about half of that. Clearing the $1.225 billion line the company set for itself means the shortage has actually moved into revenue, and coming in under it means this shortage never had enough force to push prices. While that one row cannot widen, how far the companies holding it can be marked up is where optics splits right now.

- It reads as AI data centers hoovering up optical parts, and the source post treats these results as confirmation of its own call.
- But this shortage is not the kind you fix by building another plant. The blockage sits not in the transceiver but in the chip that makes the light inside it, and the wafer that chip is cut from is under a third the diameter of a semiconductor silicon wafer.
